Fire Chief Harry Muns

Harry Muns was appointed Fire Chief on December 31, 2020.

In 1991 Chief Muns was introduced to the fire service as a Fire Explorer with the La Mesa and San Miguel Fire Departments and then became a seasonal firefighter in 1995 with the California Department of Forestry in the San Diego (Monte Vista) Ranger Unit.  He joined the Chula Vista Fire Department in 1996.  He has held the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, Training Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief.

Chief Muns has been involved with many improvements to Fire and EMS service delivery throughout his career.

Chief Ballard comes to us having served in the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department for 35 years.  He is looking forward to working closely with the community to ensure that their needs are met as challenges arise.

He was born and raised in Chula Vista, where he still resides with his wife.  In his spare time Chief Ballard enjoys sports and travel.
